Born in the province of Polokwane, in 1983. At the age of 11 his grandfather pushed him into his initiation near Giyani in the Limpopo Province. He spent three months in the mountains and describes the nights spent in the forests as terrifying. Such an impression was left on him that even today he imitates the sounds of animals in the night perfectly.
Hendrick began his studies at the artist’s proof studio in 2005, and is presently in his third year.
He is fascinated by travel. Together with his grandmother, a well traveled woman, they spent many holidays camping and traveling to family occasions in the Eastern Cape and other parts of South Africa. Hendrick has traveled extensively within South Africa but has not yet been abroad. He enjoys researching the different customs of his family, who reside in different parts of the South Africa; like the food they eat, the way they greet each other, their different ceremonies and ways of life.
He works with memories and has what he calls his “memory box”. He collects memorabilia and still holds a fond attachment to his pre-school suitcase.
