Born at Pimville in 1959.He completed his schooling in Soweto.
From 1980 he spent three years studying part time under the late Durant Shilali at Entokwezweni Community Centre.
From 1992 to 1993 he attended the Johannesburg Art Foundation where he completed the Foundation Course as well as a Graphic Design Course. For this part of his education he was sponsored by Nedbank.
1994 to 1996 He completed the Artist Proof Studio courses qualifying as Professional Printmaker.
He shared a 2 person show with Dumisani Sibisi at the Civic Centre in
1994.
He exhibited in numerous group exhibitions. His most recent group show, 30 years of Printmaking, was held this year in Soweto.
Abe Mathebe is a master of the intimate. He specializes in minute drypoint prints and ball point pen drawings.
He enjoys drawing landscapes, traveling throughout South Africa and Botswana for inspiration. He loves to sketch “ladies moving away on windy days”.
His main influence is Rembrandt van Rijn.
