After her studies at the Dube Finishing School she completed a legal executive secretarial course as well as various computer courses. She worked as a legal secretary for four years, after which she decided to pursue her career in art.
It was during her business career that she started her art at Funda Community College. Later she spent a year at Artist Proof Studio in 1999. She presently works as a Facilitator at the Artist Proof Studio.
Vatiswa has participated in numerous group exhibitions, the most recent being the Birth Exchange Print Portfolio in New York and the HIV Awareness project sponsored by the Ford Foundation, Michigan Univesity, the Univesity of Johannesburg and Phumani Paper.
She works with a group of young children in the township on Saturdays teaching them art and creative thinking. The project is supported by the Belgian poet Frieda Groffey.
When Vatiswa’s mother died she inherited various bags. She became fascinated by the objects in them. She elaborates further on her fascination with bags saying “Each day we take the same bag with the same things in them wherever we go, yet the bag is a target for theft and inquisitiveness”.
She is presently working towards an exhibition in Sweden.
