BIOGRAPHY: Lucas Nkgweng

Originally from Limpopo, Lucas received a teaching diploma at the Makopane College of Education, a printmaking degree from Artist Proof Studio, and later a teacher training course at Wits Technikon. He has had various group exhibitions and a solo show at the Culturcentrum in Belgium. He is presently working at the Artist Proof Studio as a printmaker and as Manager of Education Programmes.

His prints include etchings, Marley Tile cuts, collographs and woodcuts. Central to Lucas’ work is the theme of corruption in society which he feels affects the public across the board in South Africa. Lucas says ‘My beautiful country is consumed by corruption, fraud and greed. Corruption is eroding what is supposed to be the brightest future of our people. It is everywhere, touching and embracing every one of us, gradually destroying the trust and loyalty of our people’.
